Dad's 51st Birthday

A year has passed! Just a few minutes before I took this picture, I clicked on a photo album on my sisters facebook page. Coincidentally, it was a picture we took of my dad and us celebrating his 50th birthday in Newcastle.
Only 3 of us were present. Mum was in JB, while Kay was on the webcam.

It makes me sad when I realize that I havent been able to celebrate my mother's and sister's birthday in 4 years.
This year, I have been thinking about why I have to leave my family to study in Australia.
Being able to see your family twice a year isnt the way it should be!
Anyone can see that I am a "family-girl"
I love and need my family to bits, and I miss them everyday. =(

I think my new year resolution this year would be to blog frequently!
I really love this blog of ours, and I have no idea why I find it so hard to maintain it.

Anyway, CNY is here! Its the 2nd day but I feel like the celebrations have been going on forever.
I have been missing CNY at home ever since I started Uni (except for my first year) and it really feels great to finally celebrate it at home.

Vera has also been very difficult to take care of. Being a baby, she hasnt been toilet trained, so she has poo-ed in many places where she isnt suppose to.
To make things worse, she had diarrhoea 2 days ago. Gahh. the horror!
=)

But she seems to be doing well, except for the kennel's cough she probably caught from the pet shop. We actually brought her to the vet the 2nd day she arrived, and called the vet again on her 3rd day because she had diarrhoea. lol.

Flight back to Newcastle is in 2 days time. Im not looking forward to going back, but am quite excited about starting surgery =)

Welcome to Holland

This semester is a little different than the others.
Exams will happen in a month, and for the last 2 months, we will be on our HES placements!
I was fortunate enough to find out that one of the nurses at my GP placement is very involved in helping kids with disabilities. ( which will be my topic for HES..)

We had a little chat, and she showed me this poem which I find very touching.
She has a daughter with cerebral palsy herself =(

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

Sports Carnival 2010 . Gooo MYSUN!

We had to wake up at 4 to catch the 5.30a.m to Sydney Aquatic Center.
I was super sleepy and grumpy, and tried to sleep throughout the whole journey.

I didnt get to play alot that day, and although I was a bit dissappointed I guess it was for the better! The teams we played against were really good! Esp the girls from Sydney University and UNSW!
They were fast, tall and had excellent team work!
I miss netball practices already. It was good fun =) and the team that represents Newcastle next year better start practicing earlier than we did! Because we have so much to improve on.

Basketball was soooooo nice to watch as well!
The boys were all soooooo talented!!!
This has to be my favourite sport to watch. I wished Andrew played it more often now. =(

It was a tiring two day event, but something that I missed for a long time.
The whole "togetherness", sportsmanship and all brought me back to secondary school, and all the wonderful memories I had in Convent.

We had to stay at a backpackers! Which was quite EWW, but alright lah.
Had korean food (Again!) but tummy was a little upset due to gastric!

I was very proud of Andrew though. Everytime he played I felt really proud of him and understood why he enjoys his games so much. Good work dear!

It was great fun, and I enjoyed every second of it.
New friendships were made, and I got closer to some girls, which is really good =)

I am 3 days away from completing my 8 full day placement at the Kotara Family Practice.
My GP is wonderful, and I am sooo glad I got him as my first doctor.
Imaging starting off your clinical years with a crappy fierce doctor.
He is lovely! And most of the patients love him.

i had to take a bus back because Andrew wasnt free today, and this little boy in front of me was trying to play with me. He decided to start shooting me with his dirty little fingers, and he tried to make the shooting sound as he did it, so I ended up being covered in his saliva, =(

Tolerated it for 5 minutes, and ran to the toilets at Uni to wash my whole arm and face. lol

Andrew and I are off to Sydney tomorow. We are taking a 5.30am bus with the whole lot of msian students for the Sports Carnival at the Uni of Sydney.
Should be fun! Our first games starts at 9.50am the same day, and we will be competing with 4 other Universities.

Its been such a sleepy day with GP in the morning, and tutorial from 2-4.
So right now, Im relaxing with a cup of steaming hot coffee, and well, washing my laundry for the week! Clothes have been pretty stinky because I have been exercising! lol
Practice this whole week okay!

My Room For The Year

I moved out from my previous house because It was getting a little disgusting, and we couldnt stand the landlords! He hasnt given us our bond back, but Andrew has been calling him to complain. (I hope!)
We were lucky enough to get a place in Barahineban this year. I wanted to stay here because most of my friends were on campus, and its such a nice place to live in, but sadly, they changed the policy and places were given to first years instead, so most of them are off campus now. =(

However, Im loving this place! =) I dont have to clean the toilet! And I HATED doing that!
I have my own kitchen, bathroom, tv, and the best thing is everything is in a room!

I guess it can get a bit boring, being cooped up in the room, but I guess im boring like that, so thats not a big problem.
Our room is pretty messy all the time, and although we try to keep the mess to a minimum
I cant help it! We are both messy people. =(

This is the neat-est my desk can get. =) There are always books, papers, highlighters and pens thrown around normally.


So there you go. Hopefully I dont get kicked out next year (although there is a high possibility) so I can enjoy the luxury of fast internet, air conditioning and cleaners!

I love my new header! Its so funny! =)

I had GP placements this morning, and decided to stay for a full day since my GP told me a patient with good cardio signs was coming in this afternoon. He left me in the room with her and I manage to find her murmur!
It was quite easy, but this is the first time I have ever heard a heart murmur on my own =)

Anyway. After placements, dear picked me up and all I wanted to do was to lie down in bed when I realized it was 4.40 and I needed to go for netball practice =(
I was soooooo tired and sleepy, and begged dear to drive me to the forum!
Game was good, although I was abit nervous and threw the ball anywhere I could whenever I caught it which was quite dumb!
Am going to play subs this Saturday, no stress! So thats good =)

Came home, had a nice bath, then had dinner. I slept till 8.40 and sat on my table to study.

Its 12.36 now and I just started studying!
Got distracted with Hotel City, Pet Society (its monday!) and photoshop!

Long day ahead tmr...
9-5 classes, then netball after that.

Easter Show 2010

This would be my third time to the Easter Show, so I was just looking forward to spending a day with Andrew, and eating Korean food later that night!
We caught the 8 + train in the morning, and slept the whole 2 hr 40 minute ride to Sydney.
We managed to visit the Farm Nursery this time though! And it was super nice!
Petting baby lambs, cows, sheep. They were so adorable!


This was a baby cow. I had to fight with the little kids for a photo. They were hogging the cow! and force feeding it till it got pretty irritated.


We had the fries that I wanted to try 2 years ago but didnt. Had to queue up for pretty long, but it was worth it! Quite yummy!

I got so excited about this! I cant rmb what it is called, but I think it was a snowie cup or smth.

You can get to choose an mix your flavours. Was very good as it was quite a hot day!
Saw many cute dogs and animals, but I cant be bothered to upload all the pictures.




Manage to catch Suzie and Cheryl before I left! I was suppose to follow them, but they were leaving too early and were going to hang around Central before coming to the show.

I had fun at the show, although we didnt bother playing any games to win soft toys. We have too many I dont know what to do with them when we have to move out at the end of the year.

Bloggie Revive!

I miss blogging alot, and I regret not documenting anything over the past few months.
Therefore, to motivate me into blogging again, I decided to change my blog skin, with a new header! Its not perfect, not how I had imagine it to be, but it will do for the mean time.

I downloaded a short trial of Photoshop and will only be able to use it for 30 days. Have to get the pirated version when I get back to Malaysia. =)

I have so much to blog about!
About the wonderful place Im living at the moment (think cleaners, and air conditioning!!), playing netball again, GP placements, studies (ugh) and so much more.

In the mean time, I have some red bean soup boiling away in the kitchen. =)

We manage to get midnight premiere tickets for new moon! I checked for tickets about a month ago, and they were all full, but on the day itself, it seemed like they open a few more rooms.
I loved the movie! It was so much better than the first one. Although Jacob looks really good =D, but I shall be faithful, and am still in TEAM EDWARD!
It was soo packed that night.
Plus, dont believe Andrew, i think he secretly enjoyed the movie.

We are packing packing packing up these few days, and I hate the dust so so much!

Im so sensitive to dust, my eyes, nose and throat start getting so itchy! Its so irritating!

Oh, so I was looking at our fridge, and I realized I have so much chaipoh (preserved radish) and dried he bi (lil shrimps)
And I was thinking of ways to finish it when I had this brilliant idea of cooking " ham cha" which is a Hakka dish i think, according to Andrew.
So we bought three kinds of vege, and made this yummy home cooked meal last night =)
I am so proud of ourselves, because it really tasted like home!
I loved it! Made 4 portions so we had it for lunch today and probably for lunch tommorow as well. =)
Save money okay!

Hello. my long lost blog! =)

Ive been neglecting this blog for like what, the whole 4 months I was here its terrible!
not that I got any "pls update!!" except from my sister, and my boyfriends friend.
But oh well. This blog is for me, and for Andrew to look back, laugh, smile, and reminisce about the wonderful years once upon a time.

Ive been pretty busy this semester, starting with dancing practice.
It was so much fun. I really miss performing. The whole process from the never ending practices, the "fights", the laughter, the trying on costumes, the rehearsal, the day it self, and the compliments we get for all our hardwork.

Then, we had to do this ethics video for an assignment, and it was such a huge success!
We had this crazy idea, took nearly a month to finalize everything, and the whole year loved it!

The rest of my 4 months here were basically filled up with study.
This semester was Neurology, Endocrinology, and Psychiatry.
Loved it! But hated them at the same time.
Endo was the easiest ,but neuro and psych was quite hard. The amount of reading I had to do! tsk tsk.

Anyway, exams are all done and over. And Im still not home =(
Been spending most of my time just cleaning up the house slowly, watching tons of movies, and who can forget post-exam shopping!

Didnt buy clothes this time though, but I spent quite a sum, not much, but 50aud on a nice red laptop sleeve for my darling mac.
And today I bought this portable pink speaker for only 10 aud! 50% discount =)

Super happy because now we dont have to use the headphones when we watch movies. My ipod earphones are super torn n horrible d. Plus, its so restricting when you have to stay so close to the laptop.

okay! better go and pretend Im cleaning up my room before Andrew comes home.

3 more weeks till my first paper.

Im feeling happier, and im sure he is too.




Sometimes, its just better to smile and let it be, rather than tense up and spoil the whole day ahead.

The benefits of being botak:

1) Its a good way to suprise your girlfren! You might have a gf who always be like, 'how come you everytime nv surprise me with gifts wan!'.. and then you can show up botak to her!
2) You become popular.. you get stares.... now, this could either be good or bad, you never know what other ppl are thinkin la.
3) You save on shampoo, and other hair accessories, like gel, wax, etc...

And the major bad point bout being botak....

ITS WINTER AND YOU HAVE NO HAIR TO COVER YOUR HEAD, AND IT REACHES TILL LIKE 10 CELCIUS AT NIGHT! WTFZ!

A liverpool 2009 away kit!! i was eyeing this ever since the sampled showed up, and was thinkin bout getting it once it was in stores.! but dear bought it for me early! thank u!!

Reached Sydney at 10 smtg in the morning, and the was looking around for Andrew, but couldnt find him anywhere.

Then I saw this skinny, botak man in a cap smiling and walking towards me.
AHHHH!!!

Stupid bi cut his hair. =(
But its okay lah, getting used to it, feels like im going out with a new guy anyway. hahaha

We took a train to central station, and check-ed in to our hotel. Then we headed for lunch at Din Tai Fung. My tummy was a little upset, so I ate abit, and he whacked everything else.
I get this pain everytime I fly though, wether or not I eat everything served. sigh

Then we went back cause I needed some Li Yu on my tummy, and I slept for a while. Didnt get to sleep much on the plane this time. So felt like I was floating here and there.

At 4pm, we headed out to explore Sydney!
walked all the way to Darling Harbour.. but since we werent that hungry yet, we sat down and laughed at the little seagulls running around, talked, gossiped.. haha
It was a very nice n sweet moment for me because its been sooooo long since we had nothing else to do but just talk and enjoy each others company.

Finally, after price and menu surveyin ( so ex lah there! ) we decided on this little restaurant. One appetizer and one main meal for the both of us. I belanja-ed him. His birthday dinner! hehe

We shared this baked mushroom. yum yum
And for the first time, i ate western style duck breast!
Very nice... Mash potato was very very nice too.


Then off we walked to get some ice cream! This was yummy, and the serving was so huge!
Brownie fudge smth .. We shared this while walking back to the hotel.

The next morning, we headed out to look for some nice brunch, but everything was open yet =( and the hotel check out time was 11am, so we just stopped by this place for a simple breakfast. Bought some sushi because it looked so good! better than newies one..


Overall, time passed so fast! But I really had fun. =)

Its been a few days since class started, but Im still in the holiday mood. yawns..

Manage to catch up with friends only twice this holiday. Mainly because everyone is busy with their own family, and that we are lazy people! Hate planning anything. lol
The three of us were little girls again, as we walked through cyber zone, and nodded our heads with enthusiasm when we reached the photobooths. It was so fun! I love this feature.




Then it was time to go back. =(
Was a little sad, but i didn't cry this time around. I had a long nice break with them, so no complains at all. =)

Me and Vernesse. See our swollen eyes? Both of us had to get an allergic reaction the day I flew off! It was so funny! I think it was the new Peri-peri flavoured twisties mum and I got in giant the other day. Both of us ate some, and poof! swollen eyes, coughing, and runny noses immediately! Nessy was worse though, eyes swollen like mad.

No photos of Kay because she said she didnt look nice that day. -.-


Our last dinner of the trip, one of my favorite cuisines, Korean. =)

I miss home already, but I'll be back in 4 months.
